Australian Academy of Design Photographic Portrait Prize

The Australian Academy of Design Photographic Portrait Prize is an annual competition. The Australian Academy of Design invites entries from photographers in the following categories:

  • Category A: Tertiary students (inc. TAFE students)
  • Category B: Years 10-12 secondary school students

Awards for this year in each Category A and B are:

  • First Place: $700 Michaels/Canon Voucher
  • Second Place: $200 Michaels Hire Voucher (redeemable for equipment hire)
  • Third Place: $100 Michaels Camera Store Print Voucher (redeemable for professional
  • printing and processing services)

Blarney’s Biblio-Art Awards

Choose a book from our selection, and convert it into an inspired art piece!
A selection of books will be made available for this event. You need to visit us to
select your book from those we have put aside for this event. If it is not convenient
or possible for you to visit us in the time frame, then please check out our website at
www.blarneybooks.com.au. All of the books are for sale, and the purchase of the
book is the entry fee to this event. The books will be priced at $10 each. You may
choose one book, or as many as you please. Books can be reserved in store, by
email, or phone, and can be posted if required. As you make the purchase, the title
of your book will be marked on a list, and your artwork must be inspired by your
choice. When it comes to exhibition and display, we will be requesting a few
explanatory lines about your piece, and if the book is not used directly in the
artwork, then we will ask that the book (or book image) be displayed alongside your
work.

The Blarney Books Literary Art Prize is a non acquisitive prize, and is open to all
types of medium.

Prizes

  • Barney Biblio-Art Award (non-acquisitive) - $1500
  • Storyteller’s Award - $250
  • People’s Choice - $250


Judging 2010

The winner is announced on Saturday 12th June 2010.

Fees:
Commission on sales is 20% and a 10%GST. Entry is the price of the book.

CLIP Award

The CLIP (contemporary landscapes in photography) Award is a national prize recognising contemporary landscapes in photo-based media offering $3500 in prize money.
The criteria for selection will focus on images that are original, stimulating and challenge traditional notion of landscape photography, urban, industrial, rural.

This event will also provide emerging photomedia artists the opportunity to be selected for the Saville Australia Urban Energy Award- a photographic contract to the value of $7500.

Prizes

  • First Prize - $3,000
  • Commendation Prize - $500

Winners are announced on 4th June 2010.

Fees in 2010
$30 for PCP members and $45 for non-PCP members.

Erotica National Acquisitive Prize

EROTICA is a new art prize…one that is sure to be complex, different and possibly controversial. This is a challenge to artists to make work that explores all the elements of the erotic…to find a simple sensuality or to tackle highly sexual imagery that is not exploitative or pornographic.

This is an acquisitive art prize.

Entry Fee for 2010 - $27.50 for Artworkers members and $44.55 for non members. A maximum of 3 works can be entered. 30% commission .

Fletcher Jones Art Prize

This is a biennial event.

The Fletcher Jones Art Prize is a biennial event that continues the tradition of the Geelong Contemporary Art Prize that was initiated by the Geelong Art Gallery Foundation in 1996. This is an acquisitive Prize, conducted by the Geelong Gallery. The $30,000 prize money has been generously sponsored by Fletcher Jones Support. The prize-winning work becomes the property of the Gallery upon payment of the prize money to the winning entrant.

Entry Fee for 2010 is $35.

Winners are announced on Friday 23 July 2010.

National NAIDOC Poster Competition

The National NAIDOC Poster Competition is an opportunity for talented Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists to have their artwork showcased across Australia as part of NAIDOC celebrations.

Indigenous Australians are encouraged to enter the NAIDOC Poster Competition and nominate fellow community members to receive National NAIDOC Awards.

Prizes:

The winning entry will collect $5,000 as well as featuring on the NAIDOC poster and will be displayed across Australia in workplaces, schools and community organisations.

Metro Art Award

The Metro  Art Award is an acquisitive award. The winning paintings (both judges’ decision and public’s choice) will automatically become part of the gallery collection.

Artists must be 35 years of age and must be born in Australia or hold an Australian citizenship or a permanent resident visa. Each artist may submit one painting of any genre.

Prizes

  • The winner of the Judges’ Choice receives $40,000 

  • winner of the Public’s Choice receives $10,000.

Entry Fee: There is no entry fee for 2010.

Lethbridge 10 000 Small Scale Art Award

This is an  new art competition open to national and international artists for small scale artworks. Entrants may submit paintings, drawings and 2Dartworks up to 60cm in any direction.

Prizes

The judging criteria will bebased on three equally evaluated criteria of creativity, originality and skill. $10 000 will be awarded to the winner.

Judge(s) for 2010 are two proprietors of the Gallery, Brett Lethbridge and Olivia Haupt, in conjunction with the art prize manager Carly Kotynski.

The winner is announced on 24th May 2010.

Sidney Myer International Ceramics Award

This is a biennial event - next scheduled for 2010.

The Sidney Myer Fund International Ceramics Award is organised by the Shepparton Art Gallery in association with La Trobe University.

Entries for the new award, The Sidney Myer Fund AustralianCeramic Art Award, are now open for both Australian andInternational ceramic artists. With an expansion to $55,000 inprize monies, the new award confirms its place as the premierAustralian/International acquisitive art award.

There will be three recipients of the award, each of whom willreceive a significant stipend to produce a body of work forexhibition, on the understanding that the gallery will select onework for its collection. Costs associated with the exhibition willbe borne by the gallery, including freight and the production of afully illustrated catalogue. The gallery will also pay airfares andaccommodation for recipient artists to attend the opening event andpresent at the associated seminar.

Prizes

Prizes on offer are: SIDNEY MYER FUND PREMIER AWARD: $15,000

  • Australian Artist - $25,000 (as the cash component)
  • International Artist - $25,000 (as the cash component)
  • Emerging Australian - $5,000 (as the cash component)

Telstra National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Award

Important national indigenous award attracting almost 500 entries. Covering all styles and media from bark paintings, textiles to photography for a total of $56,000 prize money. As from 2006 this is a non-acquisitive prize.
The Award was established in 1984 as the National Aboriginal Art Award by the Museum & Art Gallery of the Northern Territory. The aim of the Award is to recognise the important contribution made by Indigenous artists and to promote appreciation and understanding of the quality and diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art from regional and urban based Indigenous artists throughout Australia, working in traditional and contemporary media. The Award is an important showcase for both established and emerging artists and has come to be regarded as the premier national event in the Australian Indigenous art calendar.

Prizes

The six categories in which prizes are awarded are:

  • the Telstra Award - $40,000 purse
  • Telstra New Media Award (new technologies including computer generated art, digital photography) - $3,000
  • the Telstra General Painting Award - $4,000
  • the Telstra Bark Painting Award - $4,000
  • the Telstra Work on Paper Award - $4,000
  • the Wandjuk Marika 3D Memorial Award (sponsored by Telstra) - $4,000
