Bauhaus: Art as Life, opening at the Barbican in May 2012, will feature painting, sculpture, design, architecture, film, photography, textiles, ceramics, theatre and installation from the modern world’s most famous art school.
To celebrate the exhibition, IdeasTap wants you to design a series of Bauhaus-inspired images to be sold as products in the Barbican shop. Six designs will be selected by an esteemed panel of judges to be made into paper-based products such as greetings cards, posters or prints. You’ll even receive 10% of the initial print run for your own use. You will also receive an invite to the exclusive private view to mark the opening of the exhibition.

© Penny Byrne, Green Wash Warrior Rides in to Save the Planet, (detall) 2010. Holmesglen Collection of Contemporary Art. Reproduced courtesy of Sullivan+Strumpf Fine Art.
Penny Byrne has been described as a political cartoonist who uses ceramics. Highly regarded as a leading authority on ceramic restoration, Byrne started making her own work in 2001; it covers a range of contemporary issues from the environment to Australian and American politics and lampoons the failings of contemporary society. The artist’s reworked ceramic figurines – often made from the kitsch remnants of someone else’s interior design disaster – have captured people’s imagination and incited much commentary with their witty and unapologetic imagery. Penny Byrne will be speaking about her career as an artist and conservator (and the move from the latter to the former) in a free public lecture at the Chadstone campus. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet and learn more about one of Australia’s most talented sculptors.
