“Spontaneous” Photography Call for Entry

Copyright 2011 :: Open photo contests and competitions

Spontaneous Photography Call for EntryTheme: Spontaneous

Spontaneity is the hallmark for great documentary and street photography where the moments of life, often ironic, poignant, emotionally charged, tragic or absurd are frozen. Many of the scenes captured by practitioners of this art, with the possible exception of war and extreme sports documentary, pass before us every day, but we do not see. This exhibit is dedicated to those who strive to see, realize and then manifest vision and moment into an image so that we can all see what is right in front of us or inaccessible in some other way. Showing us the remarkable moments that make up the, often unconscious, Human Experience.

Exhibition dates: 22 March – 15 April 2012

Awards:

  • All selected entries are exhibited in our gallery and included in a full color exhibit catalog.
  • Juror’s Choice receives a 20×35" vinyl exhibit banner featuring their image.
  • People’s Choice gains free entry into a future exhibit.
  • Free matting and framing of accepted entries are offered for the duration of each of our exhibition, subject to standard sizes.

Call for Entry: Both Sides of the Lens

Copyright 2011 :: Open photo contests and competitions

Call for Entry: Both Sides of the LensTheme: Both Sides of the Lens: Self-Portraiture

A photographer’s most reliable subject is his or her self. By turning the camera on oneself the photographer is brought out from behind their lens, presenting themselves to the world as both artist and subject. Self-portraiture is often used to explore and manipulate identity. The photographer invites judgement and critique on not only their artistic message, but also their appearance and demeanor. For this exhibition, The Kiernan Gallery seeks self-portraits that provide insight into the artist; their stories, struggles and triumphs.

Awards:

  • Up to 30 images will be exhibited in The Kiernan Gallery in Lexington, Virginia (April 10 – May 6, 2012). Up to an additional 40 images will be selected for exhibition in the online gallery.
  • All selected works will be published in a full color exhibition catalogue available for purchase.
  • A Juror’s Choice and Director’s Choice award will also be given.
