Theme: Spontaneous
Spontaneity is the hallmark for great documentary and street photography where the moments of life, often ironic, poignant, emotionally charged, tragic or absurd are frozen. Many of the scenes captured by practitioners of this art, with the possible exception of war and extreme sports documentary, pass before us every day, but we do not see. This exhibit is dedicated to those who strive to see, realize and then manifest vision and moment into an image so that we can all see what is right in front of us or inaccessible in some other way. Showing us the remarkable moments that make up the, often unconscious, Human Experience.

The camera is a wonderful tool for recording the here-and-now things in front of the lens. But it can also be used in the service of imagination, mystery, and especially the dream. For IN YOUR DREAMS , juror Susan Burnstine will select forty photos for exhibition at PhotoPlace Gallery from April 17th through May 12th, 2012. She will also choose an additional thirty-five photos for the gallery’s “On-Line Annex.” All selected work will be included in a full-color exhibition catalog available for purchase.
You may submit any subject as long as it is a black and white photograph.
Black and white photos add an air of romance, class, timelessness and mystery. Photographs that work well in black and white photography are those that have strong patterns, textures, angles, tones, shadows and light perspectives. Black and white photography is a powerful way, maybe the most powerful way to communicate so much, with so little? Try to tell your story in a really dramatic way.
