NEA Opera Honors Award Ceremony Webcast Tonight!


Join us October 27, 2011 from 7:30-9:15 pm ET for the 2011 NEA Opera Honors ceremony and concert in Washington, DC at the Sidney Harman Center for the Performing Arts. Honorees include designer John Conklin, general director Speight Jenkins, Mezzo-soprano Risë Stevens, and composer Robert Ward.

This Week in DC: 2011 National Finals of Poetry Out Loud


From Fairbanks, Alaska, to Knoxville, Tennessee, 53 students from across the country will converge on Washington, DC on April 28-29, 2011 to compete in the National Finals of Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest, the nation’s largest youth poetry recitation competition. These young competitors advanced from a field of more than 365,000 students who tested their skills in poetry recitation in more than 2,000 schools nationwide. The semifinals and finals will be webcast live on uStream.

A New Poetry Out Loud National Champion!


From a competitive field of more than 365,000 students nationwide, 16-year-old Youssef Biaz of Auburn, Alabama, received the title of 2011 Poetry Out Loud National Champion at the National Finals held in Washington, DC on Friday, April 29, 2011.

NEA to Hosts Poetry & Prose Pavilion at the National Book Festival on Saturday, September 25, 2010


Nobel and Pulitzer-prize winning authors, NEA Literature Fellows, and Poetry Out Loud state and national champions will gather at the NEA’s Poetry & Prose Pavilion, as part of the Library of Congress’s tenth annual National Book Festival on Saturday, September 25, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on the National Mall in Washington, DC.
